A Patient of Ragama Hospital died after a CO-AMOXICLAV injection was given

A patient has died due to complications of the controversial CO-AMOXICLAV given to a patient at the Ragama Teaching Hospital sources said.

According to the hospital sources, a CO-AMOXICLAV injection was administered to the patient who was admitted to the hospital on the 22nd. The patient had been admitted due to an earache and was undergoing treatment in the 21st ward of the hospital. Sources said that he died shortly after the injection.

The deceased is a 50-year-old father of two residing in Kandaketiya area. The director of Ragama Teaching Hospital, Dr. Sampath Ranaweera, has stated that this patient, who was hospitalized due to a middle ear infection, had previously been given the CO-AMOXICLAV vaccine on 11 occasions, but no allergy had been shown.

He has said that after there will be investigations to clarify whether the patient died from vaccine poisoning or not.

In addition to this, a separate investigation has also been started by the order of Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Secretary of the Ministry of Health.

The CO- AMOXICLAV vaccine caused three deaths which caused serious controversy in the country. The Drug Regulatory Authority announced this on August 8 last year.

The risk assessment sub-committee held on June 30 last year recommended that 3 categories of these drugs that had adverse reactions be temporarily withdrawn from use.

Also, based on the quality reports submitted by the National Drug Quality Protection Research Laboratory, it has been seen that one product has been removed from use.
