Jaffna Vadamarachchi United Fisheries Association Vice President S. Warnakulasingham said today (48) that there is no information regarding 48 fishermen along with 14 boats that set sail from Jaffna fishing harbors due to heavy rains and strong winds.
The relatives of the fishermen have informed the Point Pedro Police and several other police stations and fisheries inspectors about the disappearance.
These fishermen went to sea before the bad weather became very bad.
A large number of boats parked at the Karainagar Vadamarachchi Gurunagar fishing harbor in Jaffna have been washed away due to strong winds and heavy rains that have blown across the Jaffna area.
Fishermen’s huts built to rest and gather fish have also been blown away by the wind.
Currently, the North Sea, including Jaffna, is rough and the Navy has banned any fishermen from entering the sea.
