It is reported that farmers in the Pitawala Pathana area are being robbed of their cattle and are also being taunted by the cattle thieves who have taken to leaving the heads of the slaughtered cattle by the roadside.

According to a social media user who identified himself as Ramil Wickramasinghe, the cattle heads had been left by the roadside of Pitawala Pathana.

When inquired he said the owner of the cattle said his buffalos used in paddy farming had been stolen and then slaughtered in this manner. The farmer had claimed this had been happening for sometime and that the thieves had even killed pregnant cows. “They leave the unborn and dead calves near the heads,” he said.

The farmer had said he has not received any support or help in this regard. According to villagers in the area, the cattle heads are left in this manner to inform of the owners that they have been stolen and slaughtered.
