Divulpitiya hospital authorities are said to be facing difficulties as a group of patients have threatned to run away over the lack of facilities at the hospital. The group consisting of 15 patients are demanding better food and sanitation facilities and have been engaging in constant arguments with the hospital staff over the issue. They are threatening to go back to their villages if proper facilities are not provided.

According to sources 102 Covid patients are being treated at the hospital and the group behaving in this manner are said to be patients from the Colombo Dockyard Company. Hospital sources said the company has been providing dry rations to the hospital to provide meals to their staff members.

“First they said they cannot eat Samba, so now we cook Keeri samba for them. They get one item of meat, a green, salad and two vegetables for their meals. But they are creating these issues after being given meals in this manner” a hospital admin staffer told Lankasara. Hospital authorities have informed the incident to the Police and the PHI officials in writing, the source added.
