A 20-year-old worker succumbed to injuries following an explosion at a firework factory in Kimbulapitiya within the Katana Police Division yesterday (9) evening.
Police said the youth, a resident of Bandarawela, sustained severe injuries in the blast and was rushed to the Negombo Hospital, where he passed away shortly after admission.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the explosion originated in an open-air shed within the factory premises. The body has been placed at the Negombo Hospital morgue for further examination.
Katana Police are conducting further investigations to determine the cause of the explosion.
