Wing Commander Arrested for Alleged Assault on Air Force Officer

Wing Commander Ranasinghe Arachchige Don Sampath Janaka, the Commanding Officer of the Mattala Air Force, has been arrested on charges of forcibly assaulting a 21-year-old female Air Force officer at the China Bay Air Force Camp. Additional Magistrate Anturei Dharshani ordered his remand until January 2nd after he was presented in court.

The Wing Commander was apprehended by the Trincomalee Crime Investigation Division for allegedly abusing the Air Force officer on May 29, 2019, at the China Port Air Force Camp. Former China Bay Air Force Camp Corporal Ekanayake Mudiyanselage Dhammika Bandara Wickramasinghe Ekanayake has also been remanded for his alleged involvement in the incident.

Further investigations are being conducted by the Chief Inspector of the Foreign Investigation Bureau and the Chief Inspector of the Crime Investigation Bureau, following the instructions of Trincomalee Senior Superintendent of Police Saman Sagara.
