The Colombo Magistrate has remanded social activist Namal Kumara following a complaint lodged by the Catholic Church.
This order was issued after he was presented before the Fort Magistrate’s Court.
Namal Kumara, no stranger to controversy, alleged homosexual acts involving His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith. These accusations, however, lack credible evidence.
The allegations against the highly respected Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith have shocked not only the Catholic community but also many others who hold him in high regard. The Church’s leadership took time to deliberate whether these accusations warranted serious attention. After consulting legal experts, the Church decided it would be unwise not to lodge a formal complaint with the police.
The Media Director of the Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Jude Krishantha, was tasked with explaining to the public why the Church decided to act against these unfounded allegations. Speaking to the media shortly after Namal Kumara’s statements, Fr. Krishantha highlighted that Namal Kumara had played a significant role in a disinformation campaign connected to the Easter Sunday bombings.
A lawyer, speaking to Lankasara, emphasized the need to investigate why Namal Kumara has made these baseless allegations at a time when the Easter Sunday massacre is being probed credibly. The lawyer further stressed the importance of uncovering the individuals or groups behind this smear campaign and understanding Namal Kumara’s motivations.
National Security
Namal Kumara has a history of making provocative allegations that have deeply impacted national security. There is growing concern over the lack of credible investigations into his claims and the absence of accountability for his actions.
Many hope that an in-depth probe into Namal Kumara’s activities will shed light on previously undisclosed details related to the Easter Sunday bombings.
