Veddah Chief Wannila Aththo said that he was experiencing something unusual in the history of this country when an anonymous person had directed a death threat at him through a letter posted from Kurunegala.
He said he felt dejected and frustrated after receiving the letter threatening to kill him and Wasantha Mudalige, the President of the Inter University Students Federation.
It is a very heartbreaking experience to receive death threats.
Wasantha Mudalige is closely related to me and is a nephew of mine.
The author of the letter threatened to axe me down to pieces along with Wasantha Mudalige”.
He said that he spoke on behalf of his nephew, Wasantha Mudalige, as a citizen of this country, and hence he (the veddah chief) had the right to do so. I will draw the attention of everyone in the entire country to this matter
“I talked about Wasantha Mudali, who is my nephew. I requested the authorities not to detain him unjustly. If he has done something wrong, investigate and act according to the normal laws of the country. If he had done wrong, put him in jail but after a fair trial. ”
“Following my request, I received an anonymous letter. The letter was written on the first of the month and mailed from Kurunegala. Wasantha and I were threatened with death in that letter that came in my name.
“The letter threatened to set the house we live in ablaze after killing us. The letter also said that Wasnatha Mudalige received his entire education from the Sinhala people’s money and demanded that we leave the country since the people of our community are illegal immigrants (Kallathoni) from south India.
I think someone who doesn’t know history must have written this letter and sent it.
I request that you check this letter. I am a leader of a community. If I see injustice being done to a young person in my community, I will speak out no matter what comes. As a leader, I have the right to express my opinion about any child who is being treated unfairly in this country”.
“The leaders of this country should investigate it. I request the President and the Prime Minister to conduct an impartial investigation into this matter. ” The Veddah chief said
