There are about 3500 people are receiving treatment for mental illness in 10 peripheral hospitals in Colombo district and this number may increase further in the future Colombo District Health Services Director Dr. Chandana Gajanayake states.
He said that although there is not even one psychiatrist to provide treatment in these 10 peripheral hospitals, trained doctors have been deployed.
While the 10 trained doctors running the clinics in these peripheral hospitals, it is stated that 24 mobile clinics are also running in the Colombo district.
Dr. Gajanayake further states that it has been confirmed that most of the mentally ill people in Colomvbo district are drug addicts and those who have broken romantic relationships.
