Vaccination for pregnant mothers is a must – VOGs emphasize

Since the pregnant mothers are more sensitive to the current strain of Covid and therefore it is important to give them a suitable vaccine against the virus Dr. Mayuramana Devolage, Chief Obstetrician and Gynecologist at the National Center for the Prevention of Covid emphasized today(07).

Infected mothers, emphasizes that Dr. Devolage further stated that due to the high intensity and the virulence of the virus in the country, they should be vaccinated against Covid disease through a suitable vaccine.

According to the specialist, one pregnant mother has died due to Covid infection and five other mothers are in critical condition. In addition, according to statistics received at around 10.00 am today, about 100 pregnant mothers have joined the ranks of infected people. Pointing out that this is a serious situation, Dr. Devolage says that it is necessary to understand the seriousness of the situation at this moment and act responsibly.

Dr. Devolage further said, “The new Covid virus that is currently spreading in Sri Lanka is spreading faster than we thought. It seems to have a greater impact on the infected. At present some countries are aware of this situation and are vaccinating pregnant mothers as well. But it is up to those with expert knowledge to decide which vaccine should be given to them. We emphasize that in order to minimize the possible maternal mortality, these people need to take action regarding vaccination. He said.
