At a meeting held in Kandy between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the heavyweights of the SLPP in the Kandy district, they discussed the rapid progress the country is making after the July political upheaval.

The most significant development was a proposal to contest the next General Elections as an alliance formed between the UNP and the SLPP under a common symbol. They also resolved to continue with the present political equation until the next elections.

The discussion took place at the President’s Pavillion in Kandy after President Wickrkemsinghe paid his respects to the sacred tooth relic and the prelates of the two main chapters, Malwatte and Asgiriya.

Keheliya Rambukwella, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Dilum Amunugama, Lohan Rathwatta, Palitha Range Bandara, Shantini Kongahage and others have joined the discussion with President Ranil Wickramasinghe.

Kandy may operate as the epicentre of the alliance under the leadership of Keheliya Rambukwella who will head the political centre based in Kandy.

However, Kandy district parliamentarians Wasantha Yapa Bandara and Udena Kirindigoda did not join the event.
