The recent heavy rains in the Hambantota district prompted authorities to open the sluice gates of the Udawalawa Reservoir.
The consequent release of water has led to flooding in areas along the Walava river, affecting houses and roads. The inundation has extended to Ambalantota Theraputta Vidyalaya and its vicinity, with ongoing efforts to manage the situation.

As a preventive measure, smaller tanks in the region are also being drained. The local community and authorities are actively responding to the challenges posed by the increased water levels.
