Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana declared a halt of emergency purchases in favor of a more transparent and realistic procurement process. The minister emphasized the appointment of a new chairman to the National Medicines Regulatory Authority and the ongoing efforts to restore its operations.
In a bid to enhance drug quality control, the government has allocated funding in this year’s budget, following a request for support. Minister Pathirana assured separate provisions for this initiative and stressed that financial allocations are available for the improvement of the quality control laboratory of the Medicines Authority.
This move aims to strengthen the oversight of drug quality and underscores the government’s commitment to a more accountable and transparent healthcare procurement system.
