Negotiations have now started to form two powerful alliances centred on the two main political camps in the country.
The formation of these two alliances is aimed at the upcoming elections. One party is led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the other party is led by opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.
Accordingly, President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s coalition is being formed with a group of members of the SLPP, a group of members of the SJB, a group of members of the SLFP, seven minor parties, and a group of independent members of parliament.
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party, SLPP, and the Dallas Alahapperuma faction form the other alliance led by Sajith Premadasa.
A few minor parties and an independent group of MPs are also in this alliance.
Preliminary negotiations for these two alliances have started separately. Sajith Premadasa and Ranil Wickremesinghe, the leaders of the respective alliances, will lead those alliances in the upcoming elections.
