A train incident occurred at Colombo Fort railway station when train number 420, scheduled to depart for Chillaw at 2:35 pm, failed to stop, resulting in damage to the platform.
The train’s driver was unable to halt the train at the designated location upon entering the first platform, causing it to collide with the guardrail and subsequently break the platform.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the accident, although both the front part of the train and a section of the platform sustained damage.
The incident has prompted an investigation by the railway department, although authorities have assured that it will not disrupt railway traffic. Measures will be taken to address the issue and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
