The Theldeniya police have reported a heartbreaking incident where a newly married couple drowned while swimming in the Mahaweli River.
The couple, aged 24 and 22, ventured to the river from the Digana area for a leisurely swim. Unfortunately, tragedy struck, and both individuals drowned during the outing.
As of now, the body of the young wife has been recovered. However, efforts are underway by Navy divers and officers from the police life protection unit to locate the body of the husband.
The Theldeniya Police, under the guidance of the Senior Superintendent of Police responsible for the Theldeniya Division, are conducting thorough investigations into the incident.
