A group of agronomists today sought the blessings of the Maha Sangha to launch massive cultivation program to address the looming food crisis that is to occur in the next few months.

The group of eight scholars, including Professor Buddhi Marambe, Prof. Nalika Ranasinghe and Prof. Saman Dharmakeerthi of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, met with the Chief Incumbent of Malwatta and said that according to their scientific assessment, a food shortage was inevitable after September and that it was imminent. The intervention and blessings of the Sangha are needed to mobilize the people for this. Experts have stated that they are seeking the advice of the Chief Incumbent of Malwatta for this purpose.

On this occasion, the Maha Nayaka Thera has informed that the Thera is aware of the impending disaster and will inform the Maha Sangha for the necessary guidance to commence cultivation activities in the vicinity of the temples under the Malwatta Maha Vihara.

The Maha Nayaka Thera has also informed the scholars that he will take this message to the rural people and inform the Sangha to take the lead in mobilizing their contributors to cultivate.
