President Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed the MPs whose houses were destroyed by unruly elements on the 9th of May that a programme has been launched to construct them in lieu of the destroyed houses. The President has told them to be patient until the houses are built with all the amenities and according to specifications for durability.

This President chaired a special discussion with the MPs whose houses had been destroyed due to arson on the 9th of May.

About 75 MPs participated in the discussion.

During the meeting, the MPs lamented that they have been marooned without proper dwelling houses and their children without schools and wanted the President to intervene immediately to resolve the issue.

The President has told them to be patient as a suitable programme is already underway in this regard.

Vajira Abeywardena also participated in the meeting and said that houses are destroyed for various reasons. For example, he said that when houses near the sea were destroyed from time to time due to erosion and sea spray, the government provided them with better houses.

In this situation, Vajira Abeywardene assured the MPs that a luxury house would be provided to every affected MP under the program and all that is required is to be patient until then.

The MP’s then requested that Vajira Abeywardena be appointed to supervise this project.
