The individual believed to be responsible for the shooting and killing of Police Inspector Balendrasinghe, a respected officer known for his efforts against underworld criminals Podi Lacy and Sudda in Karandeniya, has passed away. The suspect, identified as Wadduwa Henagoda Sanjeeva, was involved in a shooting incident that occurred in Metiyagoda, Mahawatta Road area early this morning (12).
Sanjeeva, aged 42, passed away due to his injuries after being admitted to Balapitiya hospital, according to the police.
The Police Special Task Force received information that the individual linked to the murder of former Police Inspector Balendrasinghe in Rathgama on Monday (09) was residing in a particular house.
Upon investigating the area, the suspect opened fire, prompting a response from Special Task Force officers. In the exchange of gunfire, the suspect sustained injuries and was subsequently hospitalized.
