Jay Jayasinghe, a father of Sri Lankan origin residing in Windsor, Ontario, recently achieved a remarkable feat by winning the highest prize amount of $35 million in the Lotto Max lottery drawn by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) on June 6. What makes his victory even more special is that it occurred exactly one week after his daughter’s university graduation.

In an emotional statement given to the media, Jayasinghe shared his disbelief and overwhelming joy upon discovering his win. Initially, when he learned that the winning ticket had been sold in Windsor, he briefly considered the possibility that it might be his ticket but dismissed the thought. However, when he finally checked his ticket and saw the prize money displayed on the screen, he was astounded. The magnitude of his win took time to sink in as he repeatedly scanned the ticket and counted the zeros of his enormous prize.

Overwhelmed with emotions, Jayasinghe rushed to share the good news with his wife. They embraced, oblivious to the world around them, feeling as though they were in a different realm altogether. Afterward, they wasted no time in contacting the lottery agency to claim their prize.

Now blessed with a newfound fortune, Jayasinghe has big plans for his future. He intends to use the money to purchase a new home, acquire a new vehicle, explore Canada through road trips, and provide his daughter with the higher education opportunities that were previously out of reach for him as a laborer. Additionally, he feels compelled to give back to the community and is eager to engage in charitable endeavors.

He acknowledged that his life had been forever altered by this life-changing decision, but he never anticipated such incredible luck. With no limits to their dreams now, Jayasinghe and his family are excited to embark on this new chapter in their lives.

At the OLG Rewards Center in Toronto, Jayasinghe shared his heartfelt sentiments with the staff, highlighting the serendipity of his win occurring just one week after his daughter’s graduation. To him, it felt like experiencing two victories simultaneously.
