Minister of State for Local Medicine, Sisira Jayakodi, announced in Parliament yesterday (05) that a gazette notification legalizing the cultivation of cannabis will be issued in the near future.

Minister Jayakodi made this announcement while presenting the Ayurveda Amendment Bill to the Parliament, emphasizing that this authorization would be granted through a new gazette notification under the Ayurvedic Code.

His vision is to promote cannabis as a commercial crop, acknowledging its potential in traditional medicine.

He asserted that failing to legalize the cultivation of cannabis could result in the loss of valuable traditional remedies.
