In a statement, the Sri Lanka Bar Association has expressed concerns about accusations made by a Cabinet Minister in Parliament yesterday (08) regarding a judge of the Court of Appeal who issued an interim restraining order regarding the appointment of an interim committee to the Sri Lanka Cricket Association.
The Bar Association emphasized that judicial independence is a fundamental principle of the rule of law and condemned any undue interference that undermines public confidence in the judiciary.
The Association also recommended that independent and impartial individuals be appointed to investigate the veracity of the allegations.
They noted that if the allegations prove true, it could damage the integrity of the judicial system. Conversely, if the allegations are baseless, it could seriously undermine the independence of the judiciary and the integrity of the justice system in Sri Lanka.
