Sri Dalada Maligawa closed after discovery of 17 Covid cases

The Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy was closed for two hours today (16) after 17 people were diagnosed with Covid 19.

During the 2 hours of the closure, the staff had been subjected to PCR tests.

Sources said it was revealed that a group including Policemen serving at the Sri Dalada Maligawa had tested positive for Covid resulting in the closure.

The Asgiriya Malwathu Maha Nayaka Theras are aware of this situation and have advised the staff to open the Maligawa as soon as possible and create an environment in which the rituals can be continued.

On the Janaury 11, 195 Ukrainians arrived at the Sri Dalada Maligawa and stayed there for about three hours.

Ven. Lewelle Dhammalankara Thero said that a large number of ordinary devotees were inside the palace premises when the tourists arrived.
