Sports Minister takes key decisions on Sri Lanka cricket

Asantha de Mel has resigned as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee on the orders of Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa.

de Mel, who first resigned from the post of Sri Lanka Cricket Manager on the orders of the Minister of Sports, has also resigned from the post of Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee.


A new selection committee has been appointed on the instructions of the President of the National Sports Council, Mahela Jayawardena, based on the forthcoming South African Cricket Tournament.

Meanwhile, the Minister has instructed Sri Lanka Cricket to pay more attention to the discipline and fitness of cricket players and to expedite the development of a new system for paying cricket players based on merit and performance.
