Sri Lanka Cricket has failed to allocate funds to leading clubs to develop future players, despite this being made mandatory by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Lankasara learns.
Although these funds are usually paid to clubs in instalments, Sri Lanka Cricket has reportedly not released the third-quarter payment, causing serious inconvenience to the clubs.
In Test-playing nations, it is the responsibility of the national board to support leading (First-Class) clubs, as these clubs play a vital role in developing players for the future through domestic tournaments.
Officials from several sports clubs told Lankasara that they are unable to continue participating in the ongoing Premier League A and B matches due to the non-payment of these funds.
They said clubs must cover large expenses such as ground reservations, match operations, and player payments. As a result, their participation in upcoming matches is now uncertain because Sri Lanka Cricket has failed to release the third-quarter instalment.
