Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has granted permission for Environment Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, currently remanded in prison, to participate in the opening ceremony of the new parliamentary session scheduled for tomorrow (07).
This decision was made following a request from one of the Speaker’s secretaries, seeking Rambukwella’s participation in parliamentary proceedings.
Accordingly, Sergeant Kushan Jayaratne has formally communicated with the Commissioner General of Prisons, requesting Rambukwella’s presence at Parliament.
As a result, Rambukwella will be expected to attend all upcoming parliamentary meetings.
With Rambukwella having relinquished his ministerial position, parliamentary sources have indicated that a seat in the back row of the ruling party will be arranged for him in the parliamentary chamber.
