In the encounter at the Kimberley Stadium, the South African women’s cricket team secured a commanding 7-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in a one-day international match.

Led by an exceptional batting display from captain Laura Wolvaardt, South Africa chased down Sri Lanka’s target with ease. Wolvaardt’s unbeaten century, scoring 110 runs off 141 balls, set the tone for South Africa’s successful chase, with Marizanne Kapp contributing an unbeaten 80 runs, forming a formidable 147-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Opting to field first after winning the toss, the South African team restricted Sri Lanka to 226 runs, with captain Chamari Athapattu being the standout performer, scoring 51 runs.

Despite notable contributions from Kaweesha Dilhari (2 runs), Nilakshika Silva (36 runs), and Hasmika Karunaratne (33 runs) for Sri Lanka, the team struggled to build a substantial total.

South Africa’s bowling attack proved effective, with Ayabonga Khaka and Nadine de Klerk claiming three wickets each, while Nonkululeko Mlaba took two wickets.

Facing a target of 227 runs, South Africa initially faced pressure from Sri Lanka’s bowlers, losing three wickets for 86 runs by the 20th over. However, the partnership between Wolvaardt and Kapp steered South Africa to victory, securing the win with seven wickets in hand.

Achini Kulasuriya, Oshadhi Ranasinghe, and Inoka Ranaweera claimed a wicket each for Sri Lanka, but were unable to halt South Africa’s charge towards victory.

With this impressive performance, the South African women’s cricket team demonstrated their prowess on the field, clinching a well-deserved victory over Sri Lanka in the one-day international match.
