A special category prisoner detained at the Boossa High Security Prison was found in possession of a smartphone, a hands-free device, and a pill of the drug “Ice” that had allegedly been concealed in his rectum after being taken to and returned from a court hearing at the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court yesterday (03).
According to prison sources, the prisoner was produced before the Balapitiya Court on June 2 and was later transported back to Boossa High Security Prison under the escort of officers from the Galle Prison, including a jailer, a sergeant, and a prison guard.

Upon his return, officers of the Prisons Department’s Emergency Strategic Force and Boossa Prison officials subjected him to a thorough search. Due to suspicious circumstances that arose during the inspection, prison authorities continued questioning the inmate and subsequently admitted him to the Karapitiya National Hospital in Galle on the same day.
During a medical scan conducted at the hospital, authorities discovered a smartphone, a hands-free device, and a pill of the narcotic drug Ice concealed in the prisoner’s rectum.
Investigations have revealed that the prisoner had allegedly inserted the prohibited items while being held in the court cell at the Balapitiya Court premises.
Prison sources further stated that the Superintendent of Boossa Prison had previously instructed the escorting officers to exercise extra caution when handling this particular inmate.
It has also been reported that the prisoner was returned from Balapitiya Court to Boossa Prison under the supervision of a different jailer from the one who initially escorted him to court. Subsequently, he was transported from Boossa Prison to Karapitiya National Hospital under the protection of another team of officers from Galle Prison.
A special investigation has been launched into the conduct of the prison officers responsible for escorting the inmate. The smartphone, hands-free device, and Ice pill recovered from the prisoner have been handed over to the Galle Police for further investigations.
Following medical treatment and examinations at Karapitiya National Hospital, the prisoner was discharged and returned to Boossa High Security Prison.
