Professor Manuj Krishantha Weerasinghe, Chairman of the State Pharmaceutical Corporation (SPC), has resigned from his position.
Sources said that he submitted his resignation letter to Minister of Health Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa today (04).

A Professor of Community Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Prof. Weerasinghe assumed the post of SPC Chairman in November 2024. He is reported to have worked in a highly challenging environment and faced significant pressure, both internally and externally, particularly in relation to the procurement and supply of medicines.
Sources within the State Pharmaceutical Corporation told Lankasara that Prof. Weerasinghe decided to step down due to several factors, including the lack of expected support from relevant authorities in addressing issues affecting the pharmaceutical sector.
