The SLFP and the independent grouping in Parliament have decided to submit three names for Premiership stakes soon after the meeting between former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The SLFP and the independent group met to discuss the current political situation and Sajith Premadasa’s refusal to accept the Prime Ministership of the interim government. Premadasa was dragging his feet while attaching many conditions to take over the Premiership.
The stand taken by this group was to reintroduce the 19th amendment to the constitution in the form of the 21st amendment and put in place necessary modalities to abolish the executive Presidency.
Since Premadasa’s stance was not clear and subject to change from time to time, the group decided to send a list of three names for the President’s consideration. The names are that of Dullas Allahaperuma, Nimal Siripala De Silva and Wijedasa Rajapaksa.
