The SJB and SLFP are contemplating disciplinary action against Parliamentarians who accepted ministerial portfolios contrary to the party whip.

An SLFP spokesperson said that when the party had agreed to support the government from the opposition benches, Nimal Siripala De Silva arbitrarily accepted a portfolio that warrants severe disciplinary action against him.

He further said that Nimal Siripalal de Silva did not inform the party of his decision. ” Last night, he was in a discussion to chart out the future political course of the party and this morning has accepted a portfolio as the Minister of Shipping and aviation”.

The SJB said that disciplinary action awaits both Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara for violating part discipline.

The SJB has resolved to support the government for all the good decisions taken on behalf of the people, but we have warned the government that we would withdraw support if they try to grab our people, he said.

However, both the SJB and SLFP admitted that there had been instances spread throughout history where members have violated the party line to support governments.
