The Urban Development Authority (UDA) yesterday handed over a 101-unit housing complex for parliamentarians to replace the 47 houses set on fire by angry mobs following the attack on peaceful protest in Galle Face. Sumedha Ratnayake, Finance Secretary of the 43 Group, a former Director General of the Urban Development Authority, questioned at a media briefing today that it was a question as to why 101 houses were given to the 47 MPs whose houses were damaged.
He was speaking at a media briefing today.
“Forty seven properties were damaged due to the violence. Why give them 101 houses? The value of one of these houses is Rs. 17 million. The Urban Development Authority has spent Rs. 1117 million on 101 housing units. I do not think the government can give a property built with such a large sum of money to the Urban Development Authority. Sometimes It may lead the Urban Development Authority to the bankruptcy, ”he said.
