Six children who were diagnosed with multiple organ dysfunction Syndrome after being cured of Covid disease are still being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital,Consultant Pediatrician Dr. Nalin Kitulwatta said.
A 14 – year – old child who was treated in the Intensive Care Unit due to an exacerbation of the disease died last Sunday and the another child who is currently in a critical condition Dr Kithulwatta said.
According to him there are nore than 100 children were treated at Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital and 76 children were treated in the Intensive Care Unit.
The specialist urges the parents to take the child to the hospital immediately if Covid develops fever, severe abdominal pain and red spots within 4-6 weeks of recovery.
Dr. Kitulwatta says that some children do not pay much attention to the above symptoms due to the fact that even the parents are not aware that such children have contracted the disease as they recover without showing any symptoms.He emphasizes that if such children are admitted to the hospital early, they can be cured by giving the necessary treatment in a timely manner..
