Although it has been stated that the second dose of Sinopharm vaccine should be given within 3 weeks of the first dose, it is a serious problem for the Ministry of Health to take 4 weeks to give it to the public Dr Chandima Jeewandara, a researcher at Faculty of Medicine, Sri Jayawardenpura University, states.
Dr Jeewandara points out that after giving the second dose at 3 weeks, the immune system builds up against the Covid virus at 4 weeks, but delaying this for another week and delaying the development of immunity for another week is an injustice to the people.
He said that WHO has given the instruction to give the first dose of Sinopharm vaccine and the second dose within 21 to 28 days, but the Ministry of Health had not adhered to it.
“At a time when the Delta virus is spreading rapidly in the country and there is a huge influx of Sinopharm vaccines, why not take action to make it available to the public as soon as possible,” he said.
