Considering the escalation of Covid pandemic Island wide Sri Lanka Medical Association requests from the President to vaccinate people over the age of 60 and people with high risk comorbidities at least with single dose of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca.
The SLMA points out that these vaccines have been proven that people get a significant protection from Covid, even with a single dose.
They say these vaccine should be given because it has now been scientifically proven that all three vaccines provide significant protection in even a single dose. However, it will take another two weeks after giving both doses to get that protection from the Sinopharm that is widely available in the country. The Sri Lanka Medical Association has instructed President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to take these steps to prevent the disease from escalating.
The Sri Lanka Medical Association has demanded that the country be subjected to strict travel restrictions for at least two weeks in the current situation and stressed that the vaccination should continue even in such a situation.
