Lockdown immediately! – Covid 19 Ministerial Tech. Committee writes to Pavithra

The Technical Committee on COVID-19 of the Ministry of Health, met recently recommends to the subject Minister Mrs Pavithra Wanniarachhci to immediately implement lockdown or curfew at least for two weeks in order to break the chain of current spread and reduce the excessive surge of Covid cases.
The Covid technical committee made these recommendations in presence of two high profile officials , Committee Chairman of Dr. Sunil de Alwis, Additional Secretary, Medical Services and Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Service. All of them have unanimously agreed to submit these recommendations to the Minister.
As per the four recommendations, the technical committee has further pointed out to follow up by restricting inter-provincial travel and especially securing the borders of the western province to limit the spread of the delta variant to other provinces at least until reasonable vaccine coverage is achieved in those areas is recommended.
Address shortages in hospitals with regard to trained staff, HDU/ICU space and oxygen delivery devices urgently and Develop effective mechanisms to provide patient education, correct information and monitoring, to patients who are confined to their homes are also among their recommendations.
The Technical Committee is comprised of 26 Consultant Doctors, Academics including Chairperson of Sri Lanka Medical association Dr. Padma Goonerathne, Former President of SLMA Prof Indika Karunathilaka, President of the College of Community Physicians Dr Nihal Abeysinghe, Community Medicine Professor Manuj Chrishantha Weerasinghe, Consultant Microbiologist Dr Shirani Chandrasiri etc
