An unidentified assailant on a motorcycle gunned down an individual near Allapitywala junction in Mahaba today (21) at approximately 7:15 am. The victim, identified as a Hettiarachchi don known as Sujith, passed away due to the fatal injuries inflicted by the assailants who swiftly fled the scene.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with initial reports suggesting that the deceased was a relative of notorious organized criminal Welle Saranga. The motive behind the targeted killing remains unclear, but speculation surrounds possible connections to underworld activities and ongoing turf wars within the criminal underworld.
This incident adds to a string of recent violent confrontations within the criminal underworld. Last night (20), a prominent underworld activist sustained severe injuries in a shooting at an apartment on Ananda Rajakaruna Mawatha, Borella. The injured individual was rushed to the intensive care unit of the Colombo National Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
