An underworld criminal, reputedly involved in drug trafficking and known for his high-level connections within society, fell victim to a targeted shooting at an apartment complex on Ananda Rajakaruna Mawatha in the Borella Police Domain last night (19).
Authorities have identified the victim as a major drug dealer and an active member of the underworld. He had recently been released on bail following his incarceration in connection with a drug-related offense.
The injured individual, a 38-year-old resident of Nagalagam Street, Colombo 14, is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of the Colombo National Hospital. According to police reports, the victim had only recently relocated to the apartment complex where the attack occurred.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the assailant, believed to be a hired hitman, arrived at the scene on a motorcycle and used a firearm resembling a revolver to carry out the attack before fleeing the area.
Law enforcement agencies have linked the shooting to a criminal gang associated with an underworld figure known as “Bimsara.” However, the motive behind the attack remains unknown as investigations continue.
