Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa’s wife Shashi Weerawansa, who was sentenced to two-years in prison was granted bail on Today (31) by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
The Chief Magistrate granted bail after considering the bail application produced by Mrs. Weerawansa.Accordingly, she was released on a Rs. 50,000/- Cash Bail, and two personal bails of Rs. 5 Million each.
The Court also issued an order preventing from overseas travel for Shashi Weerawansa.
She filed an appeal challenging her 2-year prison sentence and fine imposed , after she was found guilty of providing false information and possessing a fake passport.
The Colombo Magistrate decided to consider a request for bail made on behalf of Shashi Weerawansa on the 30th of May, as Weerawansa had already filed an appeal challenging the sentence.
