It is reported that the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture has resigned from his position.
MB Rohana Pushpakumara, is the second head of the Agriculture Ministry who resigned within 03 months.
The reason for the resignation was that the government had stated that it could not face the fertilizer problem in practice in the country, but the government refused to do so and it was reported that an administrative official could not agree to import organic fertilizer from China in violation of the Plant Protection Act.
It is reported that the Ministry Secretary had in a position that import of organic fertilizer should not be implemented in a hurry. The issue has been taken up at length in the last cabinet meeting.
His predecessor Retired Maj. Gen. Sumedha Perera, the former Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, abruptly resigned from his post three months ago.
