Janaka Rathnayake, chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, said that the decision to seal his office was taken during a meeting yesterday when the Additional Director General and Secretary of the Public Utilities Commission were summoned to the President’s House to obtain their approval to increase electricity tariffs.
However, the chairman says that he will offer his sincere gratitude to all parties regarding the sealing. He made these remarks while addressing a press conference from an overseas destination.
“Yesterday, when that discussion took place in the President’s office, a statement was made that my office should be sealed.
Accordingly, the police obtained a court order today. I have no objection. I am a public servant. A chairman of an independent commission “Everything in my office belongs to the government.”
“But I have personally taken my table and chair.” “I will never sit on desks and chairs that belong to any government institution.”

Meanwhile, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that, as the minister in charge of the subject, he has taken formal measures to remove the chairman of the Public Utilities Commission. He expressed confidence that everything will happen as it should in the future.
