Intensifying the Pro-Palestine movement, Pro-Palestine activists have taken over a building at the University of Melbourne.
According to Sky News Australia, approximately 100 students occupied the Arts West building, with some reportedly bringing tents and beginning a sit-in while chanting, “We shall not be moved.”
Sky News Australia reported that the students have renamed the building Mahmoud’s Hall after a Melbourne University student who perished in Gaza. Protesters have reportedly blocked the entrance to the building using furniture. According to reports, classes close to the occupied building have been cancelled.
Meanwhile, the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN) expressed their displeasure over the actions of Australian universities, claiming they are curtailing the protests.
“It is unacceptable that the University of Melbourne has threatened to penalize students involved in protests,” a spokeswoman said in a statement.
