An Ashraff Memorial Museum is to be established in a hurry in the Eastern province

Founder of Muslim Congress, former minister late M.H.M. In recognition of the services of the founder of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress M.H.M Ashraff, steps have been taken to build an “Ashraff Memorial Museum” as per the instructions of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Digamadulla District Member of Parliament HMM Haris and the Muslim community requested the President to initiate this Museum project and steps will be taken accordingly. This memorial museum is to be built in Kalmunai, Ashraff’s hometown.

President Wickremasinghe said that 25 million rupees would be allocated for this project and instructed the officials to start the relevant construction immediately.
Late Mr Asharaff a Muslim leader who emerged from Eastern province founded the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress in 1981. He has held several ministerial portfolios and died on 16 September 2000 in a helicopter crash in the Aranayake area while he was traveling to Ampara from Colombo.
