The Secretary to the President has instructed the Ministry Secretaries to suspend the leasing of privately owned buildings for government offices. Strict restrictions related to vehicle lease agreements, use of stationery items, and fuel will also come into effect shortly.
Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake has informed all the secretaries of the ministries through a circular to limit government expenditure to support the government programme to overcome economic challenges.
According to this circular issued on the instructions of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Secretary has requested to pay close attention to limiting expenses.
Treasury approval is essential in case any government institutions need to extend the existing vehicle lease agreements.
The President’s Secretary has further instructed the secretaries of the ministries to exercise restraint on matters relating to expenditure.
