President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa left the island this morning (30) to attend the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland.
The United Nations Conference on Climate Change will be held in Glasgow from tomorrow (31) to November 12 to discuss climate change and how countries plan to tackle it. November 1 and 2 are set aside for the World Leaders’ Summit.
The conference will be attended by about 25,000 people from 197 countries around the world, including heads of state, government representatives, scholars, businessmen and many others. It is reported that this is the largest conference ever held in the United Kingdom.
Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Environment, Duminda Dissanayake, State Minister of Solar, Wind and Power Generation Project Development, Lalith Weeratunga, Chief Adviser to the President, Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage, Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs and Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Environment are accompanying the President.
