President Ranil Wickremesinghe has taken on the role of Minister of Environment, which had been vacant following the abolition of Nasir Ahmed’s position as a Member of Parliament. A special gazette notification confirming this appointment has been issued.
Parliamentary General Secretary, Lawyer Kushani Rohanadeera, notified the Election Commission on Monday (09) that former Environment Minister MP Nasir Ahmed’s seat had become vacant.
The Supreme Court had ruled last Friday (06) that the decision of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress to expel Nasir Ahmed from the party for supporting the government against the party’s decision to vote against the 2022 budget was correct. As a result, Nasir Ahmed’s position as a Member of Parliament was abolished.
