Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), firmly rejected any possibility of forming an alliance with former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
He described claims that they could have won an election together as mere “arithmetical analyses,” insisting that a more nuanced political examination disproves such assertions. Premadasa made these comments during a media interaction following a special meeting at the United People’s Alliance headquarters focused on the upcoming general election.
He highlighted contradictions in Wickremesinghe’s statements, noting that while Wickremesinghe had previously suggested a united opposition alliance, he later announced his decision not to contest the general election. Premadasa questioned the viability of collaborating with someone he characterized as politically inconsistent.
