A police officer was injured in an attack involving a sharp weapon while attempting to arrest a drunk three-wheeler driver in the Miriswatta area of Panadura yesterday (02) night. The injured individual is a police officer assigned to the traffic department of Alobomulla Police.
The incident occurred when two police officers were trying to apprehend a drunk three-wheeler driver. During the confrontation, a third person intervened to assist the intoxicated driver and attacked one of the police officers with a sharp weapon, resulting in injuries.
Hospital sources report that the injured police officer sustained damage to three fingers on their left hand.
The case is currently under investigation, led by Senior Superintendent of Police Samantha Vedage and directed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Nishantha Senaratne, with Station Officer Inspector Asanka Rajakaruna overseeing the operation.
