The OIC of the Kalutara Divisional Crime Investigation Unit, Chief Inspector DL Nayanajith who was played a key role in tackle massive drugs network conducted by infamous drug dealer KUDU Salindu, has been transferred to Jaffna.

Chief Inspector Nayanajith was also responsible for the arrest of 45 kilos of heroin in connection with the smuggled by Salindus’ party in Panadura last year at Rerukana in Bandaragama. He was the key Police officer who led a team to arrest suspects of shooting at an ambulance driver recently.
However Police sources said Nayanajith was under intense pressure from some high ranking police officers while he was blocking the drug trade. According to internal police sources, Nayanajith had voluntarily gone to Jaffna seeking a transfer as various allegations had been leveled against him to discourage from breaking the drug network.
It is reported that SSP Sanjaya Irasinghe, who served as the SSP in charge of the Panadura Division, was also under tremendous pressure when he led the police team to crack down on Kudu Salindu’s drug and underworld network. Eventually he even got a transfer. The officer is currently serving as the Director of the IGP’s Secretariat.

Meanwhile an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) serving in the Kalutara District who was trying to disrupt the drug and underworld network of Kudu Salidu has also requested for a transfer due to severe pressure, police said. According to police sources, the officer had requested for a transfer outside the Western Province or to a place in the police administration unit.
