Police empowered to take any measure to recover stolen weapons from Army

esterday (15) has decided to authorize the army commanders and the Inspector General of Police to take any measures to recover the firearms stolen from the army during a conflict between the Army and protesters at Polduwa junction recently .It was discussed as the Firearms falling into the hands of the protesters can pose a serious threat to public safety.

This decision was taken when the Cabinet met yesterday under the chairmanship of Acting President Ranil Wickramasinghe.

It was the first cabinet meeting convened by Ranil Wickremesinghe as Acting President.

The Cabinet has decided to take maximum measures to ensure the security of the country and to give the necessary powers to the commanders of the three forces and the Inspector General of Police.

It has also been decided in the cabinet to take any measures to ensure the security of the Parliament when it meets and to protect the right of MPs to meet freely.
